Dutch junior rider Rosalie Bos and young rider Anne Meulendijks became the winners of the 2014 KNHS CHIO Cup show circuit, of which the finals were held on Sunday 22 June 2014 at the CDIO Rotterdam in The Netherlands. The CHIO Cup is a show circuit for Dutch junior and young riders and the national qualifiers serve as observation trials for international selection.
"In the lead up to this second and last observation trial I thought it would get easier to pick the teams for the European Championships, but that wasn't true," said Dutch team trainer Tineke Bartels. "Some combinations clearly suffered from the pressure which a last selection trial entails and therefore made mistakes."
In the junior riders division Jeanine Nekeman and Vlingh started off strongly in the team test with Rosalie Bos and Bolita finishing second. In the kur to music Finals, though, the two combinations swapped places and Marjan Hooge and Fulltime finished third.
"You can see the routine in Nejemand and Vlingh presents a very sympathetic image," said Bartels. "For me they are very reliable, expressive combination. Rosalie rode a very appealing test, but in the team test the rider was a bit sloppy, but that's fixable. Her strong point is that she's very stress resistant and Bolita is a horse with much potential thanks to her big movements."
In the young riders division the top four placed riders all scored above 70%. Anne Meulendijks and her bright bay gelding Avanti (by United) won the class, followed by Stephanie Kooijman on Winston (by OO Seven) who had a mistake in the tempi changes every three strides. Jeanine Nieuwenhuis and Baldacci (by Havidoff) were third.
"Anne Meulendijks has a spectacularly moving horse with an enormous trot capacity, but also in walk and canter this horse is very appealing," said Bartels. "Kooijman and Winston are also a combination with much expression. This horse has a very strong trot and in the extensions you spontaneously say ooooh. Nieuwenhuis is very strong in meticulously riding her tests. She's reliable and even though her horse is a bit less spectacular, he's very clear in the rhythm."
