The 3-year old Romeona, the 4-year old Frankie Boy, the 5-year old Scara Boena and the 6-year old Dan Brown became the grand winners of the 2014 Swedish Young Horse Championships held at the national state stud in Flyinge, Sweden, on 1 - 5 October 2014. The Swedish young horse nationals are a well attended event and always a highlight on the calendar of Swedish dressage riders and breeders.
In the 3-year old division Martin Ågevall and Ann-Sofie Lilja's Swedish bred mare Romeona put themselves apart from the pack by scoring the highest mark in the final and claiming the champion's sash. The mare by Don Romantic x Briar scored a total of 86.20 and led the field quite ahead of reserve champions Sandra Sterntorp on the German bred Santana (by Scolari x Hochadel) with 84.80. Crowd favourite Mattias Jansson landed a third place on his own Swedish bred Rizzoli (by Totilas x Lemon) with 84.40.
The 4-year old division is always quite a highlight in Flyinge as for the finals the top ranked horses of the first round are test ridden by a guest judge rider. This year, just like last year, Swedish WEG team member Patrik Kittel flew to Flyinge to test the rideability and potential of the four year olds. Emilie Nyrerod and the German bred dark bay Frankie Boy (by Fürstenball x Sunny Boy) took the overall victory with 91.650 points after winning the first round with 89.800 and placing third in the test rider's final with 93.500 points. Maria von Essen and Therese Stern's Swedish warmblood London (by Skovens Rafael x Londonderry) became the reserve champion with 91.45 points after placing second in round one (86.40 pts) and getting the highest score from Kittel (96.50). Emilie Nyrerod and the Oldenburg chestnut stallion Spongebob (by Sir Donnerhall II x Weltmeyer) finished third with 90.900 points after placing third in round 1 (85.80) and second in the test rider final (96.00).
Cecilia Kristoffersen and the Hanoverian bred state premium mare Scara Boena (by Scolari x Bergamon x Regazzoni) dominated the 5-year old division scoring 88.00 points in the Finals test on Sunday 5 October 2014. Anna Svanberg and Mats Freden's Swedish bred Revolution (by Skovens Rafael x Furst Heinrich) were the runners-up with only a fraction of a point less on 87.600. Revolution was last year's 4-year old Swedish champion and contested the finals at the World Young Horse Championships in Verden this year. Ida Linn Lundholm and the Dutch warmblood stallion Eclectisch (by Zenon x Olivi) landed third place with 85.800.
The clear cut winner in the 6-year old class was Jeanna Hogberg aboard the German bred Dan Brown (by Dancier x Hohenstein), scoring 84.000 in the Finals test and topping the leader board with an almost full four point advantage. They edged out Eva Fahlbrink and the Dutch warmblood Dexter (by Westpoint x Flemmingh), who slotted in second with 80.20. Maria Borg and her own Hanoverian Londondream (by Londontime x Mytens xx) were third with 79.60 points.
