Swedish Juliette Ramel made a stand on her new Grand Prix horse Buriel KH at the national subtop show in Ermelo, on 1 November 2015. Ramel scored a whopping 76.45% on her Grand Prix debut with her 9-year old Dutch warmblood gelding and immediately launched herself as one to watch for Swedish team selection.
Judges Wolters-Van den Berg and De Haas assessed the Grand Prix class which featured eleven riders in total.
Ramel and Buriel KH (by Osmium x Krack C) edged out Emmelie Scholtens on the 10-year old KWPN licensed stallion Apache (by UB40 x Krack C) who finished second with 71.65%.
"Ermelo was his first Grand Prix and I'm very very happy with him," Ramel told Eurodressage. "Buriel is still green in this work, so we have plenty to work on. But for now experience is what he needs to get."
Ramel acquired Buriel KH in April 2013 when he was a 7-year old. Based in The Netherlands, Ramel has been training him with her steady coach Nicole Werner. The pair did one CDI so far, the CDI Villach in May 2014, at small tour level and scored a 65.63% and 67.07%.
In Ermelo at Grand Prix level, however, their score of 76.45% was a promising big tour start and it opened opportunities for team consideration. However, the rider wants to keep both feet on the ground and not even mention the word Rio.
"I think my first international will be in Drachten in January and probably a national befor that," she explained. "And then we will see. My goal is to ride perfect tests. And if that brings me a team place, that would be nice."
Ramel's number one Grand Prix horse, the 16-year old Swedish warmblood Ten Points (by Chapman x Uttini), did his last competition in September 2014 and has not been out since.
"I am riding out in the forest and (doing) light training. He is retired, but he deserves my attention, because he was my mentor and helped me to be able to ride on this level," said Ramel.
