Wolfram Wittig's 14-year old Westfalian registered stallion Bertoli W (by Breitling x Diego xx) has been sold to Japanese Grand Prix rider Kuranoko Saito as his Rio Olympic hopeful.
With the Olympic ownership deadline of 15 January 2016 rapidly approaching, the final sales for the Olympic year are taking place. Japanese Grand Prix riders have invested massively into new horse stock, all of them older experienced Grand Prix horses, after Japan qualified a team for Rio at the Regional Olympic qualifier at the CDI Perl in August.
Saito acquired Bertoli W, which is bred by Wittig in partnership with Thiemann. Heiko Klausing first started the dark bay stallion at young horse competitions when Bertoli W was a 4-year old. Then Brigitte took over the ride and finished 9th at the 2007 World Youg Horse Championships in Verden. He was also fourth at the Bundeschampionate for 5-year olds one month later. In 2008 he finished 7th at the World Young Horse Championships.
Wolfram Wittig competed the stallion at Grand Prix level and showed him at CDI's in Fritzens, Vidauban, Mannheim, Aachen, and Achleiten. Their last show together was the 2015 CDI Darmstadt where the pair placed fifth in the Grand Prix.
Kuranojo Saito is a business man from Tokyo and aboard Lotus was member of the Japanese team at the 2006 World Equestrian Games in Aachen. He trains with Wolfram Wittig in Germany. Saito already acquired Bertoli's full brother Balmoral W in 2011 as Olympic hopeful. Balmoral W was last competed by Brigitte Wittig in 2013. He won the 2013 Louisdor Cup for developing Grand Prix horses.
