The Australian equestrian federation has announced the high performance and recognition dressage squads for 2016. While the high performance squad only includes Australia's elite riders, the national recognition squads are a comprehensive list of combinations across the levels.
In accordance with the Australian Olympic Team Nomination Criteria, athletes named on a High Performance Squad will form part of the shadow team of their respective discipline for the Rio 2016 Olympic Games.
High Performance Squads will include riders and/or combinations identified as having the potential to represent Australia at a major
championships (Olympic/Paralympic Games and/or World Equestrian Games)
between 2016-2020. They are categorised into three groups – Gold, Green and Generation Next.
The Recognition Squads have categories throughout the senior and developmental stages including youth, whilst acknowledging combinations that have demonstrated performances at competition level worthy of recognition during the previous 12 months.

Combinations who have scored 67% plus at Big Tour on at least 3 occasions in the previous 12 month period. Horses aged 8-10 years who have scored over 67% at Small Tour on at least 3 occasions in the previous 12 month period.

Horses aged 5-6 years who have scored 70% plus at Novice or Elementary level on at least 3 occasions in the previous 12 month period. Horses aged 7-9 years who have scored 70% plus at Medium or Advanced level on at least 3 occasions in the previous 12 month period.

Athletes from 16 to 25 years of age who have scored 65% or more at major events on a minimum of three occasions are invited to send expressions of interest for consideration. The squad will consist of the top athletes with the highest scores in each of the following categories: Novice/Elementary (Max 4 athletes), Medium/Advanced (Max 4 athletes), FEI (Max 12 Athletes)
