Routinier junior rider Febe van Zwambagt and new comer young rider Julia Groenhart became the winners of the third Leg of the 2016 KNHS Junior-Young Riders Cup held at Dressage Stable Seren in Vorden, The Netherlands, on Sunday 7 February 2016. Twenty-one juniors and only nine young riders gathered in Vorden for the competition.
At junior riders level Febe van Zwambagt and her 9-year old Rinelander FS Las Vegas (by Lord Loxley x Louis Le Bon) were the undisputed winners of the class and scored their third, consecutive victory on the show circuit. The pair posted 73.15% on the board. Mercedes Verweij and the Dutch warmblood mare Wiolita (by San Remo) were the runners-up with 71.67%, followed by Maybrett Schreur on Feinsliebchen (by Florestan) with 69.37%.
"Febe showed a very consistent and flowing test with beautiful half passes, in which the horse moved uphill. She can do that like no one else," said judge Marlon van Wissen, who assessed the class with Grieteke Oldenburgger and Jan Enne Kloosterboer. "Maybrett needs to watch out that the neck stays long enough in canter. There was some strong riding overall and the tests were well executed. It was a pleasure to judge."
At Young Riders a total new comer landed first place in this important Dutch squad selection event. Unfortunately only nine riders rallyed at Vorden so the field was thin. Julia Groenhart and her black First Barichello (by Florencio x Rubiquil) aced the division with 67.50%. She fended off Dutch team rider Laura Quint who made her debut aboard the licensed stallion Zizi Top (by Tango). They were second with 66.54%, only a fraction ahead of Ashley Langevoort on Dontruschels (by Don Primaire) with 66.36%.
"Julia Groenhart was working well with her horse and that produced a consistent test," said judge Van Wissen. "Her horse was always well carried with a nice, quiet contact. "I think it was the first time Laura started Zizi Top and overall silhouette was very pretty and uphill. The trot tour was appealing and the half passes very good, I gave them a nine. In canter she lost a few points. the horse lacked balanced and should have stayed more uphill."
