The German A-team riders, which have been short listed for Rio Olympic team selection, went into a 3-day training camp at the DOKR headquarters in Warendorf, Germany, on 11 - 13 April 2016 in preparation of the 2016 outdoor show season which commences in Germany next week with the CDI Hagen.
In attendance of German team trainers Monica Theodorescu and Jonny Hilberath, the A-squad will be training for three days, including riding the Grand Prix test. All performances were analysed, discussed and tips were given for further improvement. On Tuesday the riding was videotaped from two angles and discussed in detail. Klaus Röser, head of the German Team Dressage selection committee and FEI Dressage Committee member, was also present.
The German A-team squad includes Anabel Balkenhol, Jessica von Bredow-Werndl, Kristina Bröring-Sprehe, Fabienne Lütkemeier, Sönke Rothenberger, Hubertus Schmidt, Dorothee Schneider, and Isabell Werth.
"We had three days of great training for the German A team in Warendorf," said Jessica von Bredow-Werndl. "Now I'm going to stay for some more days until we go to Hagen."
"The training in Warendorf went well," said Sönke Rothenberger. "Today (Tuesday 12 April) we rode the tests and tomorrow (Wednesday) there is further training. Then I go home."
"One often wonders about the discrepancies between the judges, but the angle really makes a clear difference," Lutkemeier said about the session that was videotapes from two angles. "It really became clear. Because we had cameras from the front and side it was impossible to 'hide' anything."
