At the 2016 CDI Munich on 6 - 8 May 2016, German Rio team candidates Isabell Werth and Dorothee Schneider got the support of the judges on their Olympic campaign with massive personal best scores on their Rio hopefuls Emilio and Showtime. Werth cracked the 80% marker in the Grand Prix Special and Schneider scored 77% in the Grand Prix and 84% in the freestyle.
This year's international in Munich was totally action packed with a full programme of national and international classes from small to big tour level. The CDI big tour had a 3* and a 5* tour and all tests were ridden in the best of temperatures, the first summery spring days in Western Europe.
German team contenders rallyed for the 5* division with Isabell Werth claiming the Special tour on her rising star Emilio (by Ehrenpreis x Cacir AA), while Dorothee Schneider and Showtime (by Sandro Hit x Rotspon) opted for the Freestyle tour. All riders contested the same Grand Prix class, which was judged by Halsall, Fouarge, Truppa, Wust, and Eisenhardt.
Dorothee Schneider and Gabriele Kippert's 10-year old Hanoverian gelding Showtime won the Grand Prix with a whopping 77.520% placing first with three judges and third with two. Her marks ranged from 76.9% to 79.10%. 2015 European Championship kur bronze medal winner Beatriz Ferrer-Salat and her 15-year old Westfalian gelding Delgado (by De Niro x Weltmeyer) were second with 76.760% followed by Isabell Werth on the 10-year old Westfalian Emilio with 76.460%. Werth's scores ranged from 74.50% to 78.000%.
In the Grand Prix Special 5* Werth topped the leader and joined the 80%-club to which only very few riders in the world belong having the ability to score 80% or more in a technical Grand Prix test. The bay gelding Emilio, who is a half brother to Werth's other 80% but injured horse Bella Rose, was still quite tense in the Grand Prix on Friday but he found his groove in the Special and scored 80.980% in Munich. The judges' marks ranged from 79.706% to 82.059% and the gelding got 10s for piaffe. Carola Koppelmann and her 14-year old Westfalian Deveraux B (by Dimension x Rivellino xx) followed in a distance with 74.471%, edging out Swiss Marcela Krinke-Susmelj on the 15-year old Danish warmblood Smeyers Molberg (by Michellino x Rambo) with 73.294%.
In the Grand Prix Kur to Music 5* Schneider had a clear field to ace the freestyle on Showtime after Beatriz Ferrer-Salat had withdrawn Delgado from the Kur. Schneider rode a kur with a high degree of technical difficulty and scored 84.300%. She kept Jessica von Bredow-Werndl far at bay, who had opted to ride her second Grand Prix horse Zaire BB (by Son de Niro) in the 5* instead of her top mount Unee BB, who contested the 3* tour in Munich. Jessica and Zaire BB finished second in the 5* Kur with 77.750%. Jan Dirk Giesselmann and his 12-year old Hanoverian Real Dancer slotted in third with 75.150%.
