Dressage stars from all over the world are entered to compete at the 2016 CDI Roosendaal at equestrian centre Den Gouberg on 1 - 5 June 2016. The CDI Roosendaal has been marked as a U.S. Olympic team selection trial so Americans will be there in full force.
Five American combinations will be contesting the CDI4* Roosendaal in The Netherlands, June 1-5, 2016 as the show is a designated observation event for determining the 2016 U.S. Olympic Dressage Team. After dealing with a spooky and tense Verdades at the 2016 CDIO Compiegne last week, Laura Graves will be competing him again in Roosendaal before the final U.S. selection trial in Rotterdam later that month. She will be joined by America's number two, Steffen Peters, on both his horses Legolas and Rosamunde. Arlene Page (on Woodstock) and Guenter Seidel (on Zero Gravity) will be joining them.
Travelling from Wellington, Florida will be Danish Olympic team candidate Mikala Gundersen and Janne Rumbough's Danish mare My Lady (by Michellino). The pair has come to Europe to ride in the Danish selection trials, which begin at the Danish National Championships in Broholm. Roosendaal will be their warm-up show.
British 2013 and 2014 team medal winner Gareth Hughes has a hot new Grand Prix horse in the making: Briolinca. The 10-year old Dutch warmblood mare by Trento B x Royal Dance made her international GP debut last year in Hartpury, where she scored 71.300% in the Grand Prix. Two months later she contested the CDI Perl and scored 71.360% in the Grand Prix. She hasn't been out to a CDI since then, but could be a contender for the fourth spot on the British team is she proves form and scoring potential in the next month and a half. Hughes will be joined by Fiona Bigwood on her top mare Orthilia alongside other fourth team spot contenders Michael Eilberg (Marakov), Hayley Watson-Greaves (Rubins Nite) and Spencer Wilton (Super Nova).
After making her international debut with Louise Leatherdale's Hanoverian stallion Damsey (by Dressage Royal x Ritual) at the CDI Mannheim, Helen Langehanenberg will also be competing the dark bay in Roosendaal.
Danielle Heijkoop already announced her show come back on her 17-year old Siro (by Gribaldi) who has recovered from injury. After riding on the Dutch team at the 2013 European Championships in Herning, Heijkoop now aims for a team spot for Rio. Madeleine Witte-Vrees has been competing her Cennin (by Vivaldi) successfully at national shows these past few months and will now make her first outdoor CDI appearance of the season. Jeannette Haazen will make her CDI debut on the Belgian owned Dabanos d'04 (by Abanos x Donnerschlag), whose ride she took ove from owner Ona Dewaegenaere. Adelinde Cornelissen has entered her home bred Zephyr (by Jazz) for Roosendaal after taking him to Compiegne as a training horse.
It was also rumoured that Edward Gal would compete Undercover in Roosendaal, but the pair is not mentioned on the definite entry list. Gal's talented black Dutch warmblood seems to have lost his confidence and groove in the show ring since their elimination at the 2015 European Championships in Aachen. At their outdoor show comeback at the CDI Nieuw en St. Joosland in April, the pair had a very atypical ride and the horse almost jumped out of the arena refusing to piaffe. In order to be considered for Dutch Olympic team selection Gal and Undercover will need to show at the two mandatory selection events: the CDIO Rotterdam and Dutch Championships which are coming up soon.
Dutch team gold medal winning Diederik van Silfout will be bringing his second Grand Prix ride Bonzanjo (by Jazz x Contango) to Roosendaal. Rumours has it that his top horse Arlando (by Special D x Paddox) is not fit to compete and might miss the Dutch Olympic trails, but Stable van Silfhout released a video of Arlando made by KWPN TV of the horse in full training on Wednesday 25 May.
