The Spanish equestrian federation, represented by team captain Luis Lucio and team trainers Nicky Barrett, picked the team that will represent Spain at the inaugural European Under 25 Championships to be held at Hof Kasselmann in Hagen, Germany, on 16 - 19 June 2016.
The Spanish team was selected based on results achieved this season, with a specific observation trial during the 2016 Spanish Championships in Oliva Nova, Spain, last weekend.
Spain will be represented by three riders, including Florida based Juan Matute Guimon, who has been competing in three divisions this 2016 show season: young riders (on Dhannie), under 25 (on Quantico) and senior Grand Prix (on Don Diego). The 18-year old Juan, who was the 2015 European Junior Kur Gold Medal winner, decided to declare for the European Under 25 Championships with his senior GP horse Don Diego instead of young riders, of which the Europeans will be held in his native country Spain.
The Spanish Under 25 team includes:
- Erik Balasch Gonzalez - Dorado
- Pablo Gomez Molina - Tarpan
- Juan Matute Guimon - Don Diego
Spanish team veterinarian Gaspar Castelyns will be joining them on site in Hagen.
