Luxembourg based Finnish rider Terhi Stegars bagged her first World Cup victory in her career at the 2016 CDI-W Brno on 17 - 19 June 2016. Aboard her 17-year old Trakehner stallion Axis, Stegars won the Grand Prix on 69.240% and Kur to Music on 75.375%. Brno brought more excitement for Stegars as she also claimed the trophy in the Grand Prix Special with her rising star Dalou Shan.
Stegars and Axis have been competing at international Grand Prix level since 2011 and her international CDI victories includes first places at the 2012 CDI Leudelange, the 2013 CDI Paris and the 2014 CDI Kapellen. Bagging the World Cup qualifier in Brno is her first major victory even though the experienced combination has already shown at two World Cup Finals, one World Equestrian Games, and two European Championships.
Stegars and Axis beat Hungarian Robert Acs on Rasputin in the Grand Prix and Kur to Music in the CDI-W Tour. In the Special tour she tied in 7th place in the Grand Prix on her 11-year old Oldenburg stallion Dalou Shan (by De Koonig x Westerland x Landrat), and won the Special with 68.549%.
"Just got home after our trip to Brno, Czech Republic, competing in the World Cup Qualifier. 1900km, 3 girls, 3 horses and 5 placings," Stegars wrote on her Facebook page. "Axis was on great form, winning the GP and then the GP Freestyle with a good score of 75.3%. My pupil, Mandy Zimmer on Saladin placed 4th in her first International GPS Dalou Shan won the GPS and was placed 7th in the GP. Amazing results considering both of these young horses were competing at international level for the first time."
At small tour level the trophies were distributed amongst Luxembourg Sascha Schulz and Austrian Ulrike Prunthaler. Schulz and Sacre Coeur, an 11-year old Hanoverian by Sir Donnerhall x Pik Bube II, won the Prix St Georges, while Prunthaler and Edda and Wenzel Schmidt's 9-year old German Sport Horse stallion Quebec (by Quaterback x Paradiesvogel).
