The first edition of the Excellent Dressage Sales that was organised, with support of KWPN on the magnificently decorated terrains of the Dutch National Equestrian Centre, is one for the books. The KWPN-approved stallion Four Legends (by Wynton) was the absolute top seller of the auction. The in-hand presented stallion was sold for 605.000 euro.
The most expensive foal was Lady Jane (by Apache) that descends from the same dam line (€52.000). Lelegro, the full brother of dressage legend Valegro sold to Caroline Kemp and her mum Julia Hughes from the U.K. for 50,000 euro.
A grand success
Co-organiser Nico Witte looks back at the auction with satisfaction. “It was a grand success! We have put together something incredible here. It is unique that we can auction thirty horses and foals of this quality at an event like this, where every rider, sponsor, horse trader and scouts wanders around. This event attracts the right audience, this is where it should happen and it did. The atmosphere was superb. The ambiance played a role in it, but also a lot of spectators remained seated after the end of the sports classes. We are very satisfied with the outcome.”
Four Legends remains in the Netherlands
The auction’s top seller is sold to investors from Taiwan, but will remain available for Dutch sports and breeding. Philip van Ommen, stable rider of Judy de Winter, will take over the reins and the further schooling of the black stallion. Four Legends sparked a lot of interest, but the Taiwanese investor Vincent Chen was determined to place the last bid.
Lady Jane most expensive foal
Fifteen foals went under the hammer. Already in the first group buyers opened up their wallets. The most expensive foal is a close relative of the auction’s top seller. The exquisitely bred Lady Jane descends from the Grand Prix-stallion Apache and comes out of the twofold stallion dam Annabel (by De Niro), which is in turn also the grand dam of Four Legends. The charming filly was allotted to her new owner for 52.000 euro. She will also remain preserved for Dutch breeding. Eric Koele purchased Lady Jane to start a successful lineage with the best material.
The full brother of Valegro moves, just like the greatness himself, to England. His new owner can barely believe she now posesses this talent.
International interest
The Grand Prix-mare Zaïra was the first horse that surpassed the sum of 100.000 euro. The Don Romantic-daughter departs for € 225,000 to Italy.
The 27 auction horses and foals yielded a sum of 1,709,000 euro. The average price of the horses was approximately 115,000 euro. The fifteen foals together realized a total of 324,000- euro, what resulted in an average of no less than 21.600 euro per foal.
