Donna Carara has been proclaimed Hanoverian Mare of the Year 2016 at the gala evening of the 133rd Hanoverian Elite Auction in Verden, Germany, on Friday 7 October 2016.
Donna Carara (by Drosselklang II x Volkorn xx x Wendekreis x Czardasz ox) is bred by Wilhelm Sprado and owned by Gaby Huntemann. The chestnut grand dame is 23 years old and has her 15th foal on the ground right now.
Donna Carara has been producing show jumping foals. Her third foal is Galaxi Gräfin (by Graf Top) who is one of four products that have been competing at S-level. Her full brother Golden Gun (by Graf Top) is competing at S-level with Austrian Dieter Köfler.
More of her successful offspring include St.Pr.St. Daily Sun (by Contendro), who has been competed by Gilbert Böckmann and Mario Stevens, and Copperfield (by Contendro) competed by Christian Temme, Andreas Kreuzer and Philip Rüping.
This is the 8th time that the Hanoverian society has proclaimed a Mare of the Year. Only two times the honour befell a dressage mare (Wanda 2011, Ria Grande 2013).
