On 15 October 2016 Anna Kasprzak announced that she will not be competing in the Western European League World Cup kick-off event in Odense, Denmark, on 20 - 22 October 2016. Donnperignon's eye problem has returned.
Kasprzak's 17-year old Finnish warmblood Donnperignon has developed a corneal ulcer to his right eye and has to be treated with strong medication.
"Because this medication is on the doping list, it is logical that we won't have the possibility to start in Odense," said Kasprzak. Back in 2013 the combination won the Odense World Cup leg.
"Pepe's welfare comes first and there will always be another show, even though it's a pity to miss one of the highlights of the indoor season," said Anna.
Donnperignon (by Donnerhall x Mozart) has struggled with eye problems before. In May 2014 he was operated on to his left eye by Dr. Brian Gilger, a professor of ophthalmology, and eye specialist veterinarian Susanne Kaarsholm, who then removed diseased and calcified portions of the cornea.
Kasprzak will be competing in Odense though, aboard her 5-year old Victoria's Secret (by Vitalis x Fidermark) in the 2016 Danish Young Horse Championships which co-incide with the CDI-W.
