(Neumünster) – The Trakehner Stallion Market from 20 - 23 October 2016 in Neumünster will see the Trakehner Association celebrate its 54th central licensing of the young stallions from the world’s oldest riding horse breed. In addition, the Holstenhallen also becomes the “market place” for exceptional horses - the auctions of the stallions, riding horses, foals and mares each year are a striking reflection of the role that the horse as an economic factor plays in Germany, and no more so than in the horse region of Schleswig-Holstein.
The focus is of course on breeding, with the licensing of the young Trakehner stallions at the heart of the event. A total of 37 candidates from the Trakehner breed - now over 280 years old - will take part in the licensing at the 54th Trakehner Stallion Market. This number matches those at previous editions of the association’s central licensing event in Neumünster, and as ever, the event boils down to the young stallions demonstrating as high a level of quality as is possible and necessary. Looking at the lineages of the young candidates, who have already been presented and meticulously examined at licensing pre-selection events across Germany, it is evident that modernity and athleticism are the dominating factors. Both athleticism and range are prevalent amongst this year’s licensing cohort - a sure sign that the breeders and the Trakehner Association are equipping themselves for a strong future.
Represented amongst the licensing hopefuls is, for example, Trakehner stallion Schwarzgold, who sired the 2015 champion stallion Perpignan Noir (who achieved the highest price at auction - 340,000 euros). Trakehner stallions Saint Cyr and Herbstkönig have each provided three offspring. The list of licensing candidates impresses particularly with the amount of variety amongst the sires. The always outstanding Millennium, who was a premium stallion at his own licensing in Neumünster and has already fathered a whole host of licensed and prize-winning (champion) stallions, is this year represented by two sons. Three stallions who have achieved sporting success have provided sons for the 54th Trakehner Stallion Market, including Heuberger TSF, who has made a career in the dressage arena with Anabel Balkenhol and is appearing at the Trakehner Gala Evening. He has one young candidate amongst the licensing hopefuls. EH Hirtentanz, his son Abendtanz and new elite stallion Dramatiker - proven jumping horses - will each have one son representing them.
The first Polish Trakehner to have been licensed at the Trakehner Stallion Market, Avatar - the best jumping horse at his licensing - has also produced one of this year’s candidates. As a foal, Avatar was bought by a consortium on a specialist cruise for horse enthusiasts and experts. Two years later, this lively “holiday souvenir” received his licensing approval and has matured into an impressive eventing horse, who flew the flag for the Trakehner Association at the World Championships for young eventing horses.
Exquisite auction collections
Traditionally the Trakehner Stallion Market in the Holstenhallen is also the venue for auctions of riding horses, foals and mares, as well as both the licensed stallions and those not licensed. During the selection process, quality was once again the top criterion, and this is reflected in the exceptional collections being auctioned. Following the trend of the most successful sales at last year’s event, this year’s selection will include horses with advanced training, reflecting the fact that interested buyers are not only looking for young horses, but are particularly keen on well-trained riding horses. The Trakehner Association aims to meet this requirement, just as it strives to meet buyers’ demands for auction horses to have truly excellent health and the very finest lineages. For the hosts, meeting market requirements is the ultimate criterion.
The riding horse collection comprises eight outstandingly-raised riding horses with the finest Trakehner lineages - descendants from horses such as last year’s licensing Trakehner riding horse champion Vapiano by Kentucky – Easy Game, incumbent riding horse champion Torino, S**-placing Puerto Rico and M-placing Hamira, as well as tried and tested premier mares. 12 highly-interesting Trakehner mares form an auction collection which will make breeders’ hearts beat just a little faster, and 13 foals make up the collection for the foal auction. Noble, fine and with the very best lineages - that has always been and remains the maxim here. All the candidates for auction, including the stallions, can be reviewed in advance, with details, pictures and, in some cases, videos at www.trakehner-verband.de
Free Jumping Cup with 2,500 euros’ prize money
For the very first time, three and four-year-old Trakehner horses will take part in a Free Jumping Cup at the 54th Trakehner Stallion Market in Neumünster’s Holstenhallen. In total, ten horses have qualified for the cup at pre-selection events at the central inspection sites. The first Free Jumping Cup at the Stallion Market will boast 2,500 euros’ prize money. The cup has been launched and supported by a group of people interested in the development of Trakehners with a gift for jumping, as well as sponsors such as Gestüt Isselhook, Hoffrogge Trainingszentrum, Dr. Clauder`s, Gestüt Welvert and BirGroup.
Three elite titles
Amongst the Trakehner Association, the abbreviation E.H. stands for “Elite-Hengst” (“elite stallion”) and denotes particularly rare breeding quality. The title Elite-Hengst can only be used for those sires whose offspring have proven themselves to be of above-average quality in sport or breeding. At the 54th Trakehner Stallion Market, three Trakehner stallions will be awarded the title.
All Inclusive (by E.H. Gribaldi - E.H. Buddenbrock) was reserve champion at the 2009 Trakehner licensing and in 2014 secured a place in the top one percent of German riding horse stallions with a dressage focus in the integrated breeding value estimation. This stallion is based at Gestüt Tasdorf.
Dramatiker (by Bardolino - Altan II) impressed as the best German Trakehner in 2007 with top marks at the 70-day test in Schliekau, and he embodies a supple and supremely capable jumping Trakehner - a quality he certainly passes onto his offspring. Dramatiker is resident at Gestüt Ganschow in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Rheinklang (by E.H. Gribaldi - E.H. Partout) embodies the Trakehner stallion line of thoroughbred Pasteur xx and was responsible for a highlight of the 2012 Trakehner Stallion Market in the form of his daughter Donauflamme, who was sold for 105,000 euros at auction. Rheinklang reliably produces premium and state premium mares and in 2014 was marked out as one of the very best German sires with a total of 143 points in the integrated breeding value estimation. Rheinklang is currently based at Trakehnergestüt Eichenhof in Uslar, Lower Saxony but from 2017 will take up residence at Gestüt Hörem – also in Lower Saxony.
