Hubertus Schmidt and Escolar have withdrawn from contesting the 2016 Nurnberger Burgpokal Finals in Frankfurt, Germany, in four weeks on 15 - 17 December 2016. The licensed breeding stallion has injured himself and is not fit to compete. The Nurnberger Burgpokal Finals are the German Championships for Developing Prix St Georges horses.
The 2016 Nurnberger Burgpokal qualification circuit came to a conclusion in Nurnberg on 31 October - 1 November 2016 with Ingrid Klimke scoring a one-two aboard Geraldine and Franziskus. As both horses already qualified for the Finals at an earlier selection show, the third placed pair - Jill Marielle Becks and Damon's Satelite - are invited to contest the Finals in Frankfurt.
Hubertus Schmidt and the 7-year old Westfalian stallion Escolar (by Estobar x Furst Piccolo) were the winners of the Balve qualifier with a score of 76.000% in the Prix St Georges Special. Beatrice Buchwald and Den Haag placed second there.
"Fortunately it's just a minor injury and Escolar will be back in training soon," said Sandra and Axel Schürner, who own Escolar. Hubertus Schmidt told Eurodressage, "Escolar s off and has to walk for around 8 weeks."
As Escolar has now officially dropped out, the Nurnberger show organisation has called up Falk Rosenbauer on Gestut Bonhomme's Fiderdance to replace them. Falk and the 7-year old Oldenburg stallion Fiderdance (by Fidertanz x Don Schufro) scored 71,927% (2nd place) at the Schenefeld qualifier and 72.089% (3rd place) at the Verden qualifier
