The Trakehner licensing stallion Herbstkönig has passed away on Thursday 15 December 2016. The 8-year old was euthanized as he did not properly recover from a bone disease.
Bred by Gisela Gunia and owned by Burkhard Wahler and the state stud Marbach, Herbstkönig was by Interconti out of Herbstlied V (by Timber x Caanitz x Marengo). He was originally named His Time.
"Herbstkönig suffered from a bone disease and after a long treatment and two operations he did not improve. To spare him from further pain, we were forced to euthanize this stallion," Wahler stated. "We will miss him. His kind nature, his ambition and his Trakehner charm played a very important part here at the yard. He was not only an impressive sire and an incredibly talented athlete, but he was a real buddy to us who gave us a smile every day."
Herbstkönig was licensed at the 2010 Trakehner Stallion Licensing in Neumunster and did the 70-day Stallion Performance Testing in Marbach in 2011. He scored 8.58 for dressage and 7.61 for show jumping to total 8.17 points.
The stallion had only a very brief competition career. He was started by Elisabeth Wiltafsky in the riding horse tests in 2011 and in 2012 Theresa Wahler took over. They won the 2012 Trakehner Young Horse Championships in Hanover as a 4-year old. He qualified for the Bundeschampionate three times, but only competed once in Warendorf in 2013. His last show was in July 2014.
Herbstkönig has already sired six licensed sons: Albarolo, Donauherbst, Donaumond, Herbsttänzer, Mondrian and Preussentanz. He has 16 daughters registered as broodmares of which five are state premium.
"We hope that despite his short time at stud he will stamp Trakehner breeding and we are happy to have him cemented in our breeding lines," Wahler added.
