The Swedish city of Gothenburg has been allocated the 2019 and 2012 World Cup Finals in dressage and show jumping. The FEI announced the 2021 allocation alread at its General Assembly but today Gothenburg disclosed that it has also secured the 2019 Finals.
Two cities were in the running to host the 2019 World Cup Finals: Herning (Denmark) and Gothenburg (Sweden). Gothenburg has now won the bid and as tentative dates 3 - 7 April 2019 have been scheduled.
The 2017 World Cup Finals go to Omaha, NE, U.S.A. and in 2018 the Finals will move to Paris. For 2020 the Finals will return to Las Vegas and in 2021 they will be hosted in Gothenburg.
The World Cup Finals have taken place in Sweden 22 times since 1979. In 2021 the city of Gothenburg will celebrate its 400th anniversary. They are also hosting the 2017 European Dressage and Show Jumping Championships next summer.
"This is absolutely amazing. I'm very happy with this Christmas gift," said Lotta Nibell, mayor of Gothenburg. "This decision proves that Gothenburg has an extremely strong position in the horse world."
