2016-2017 KNHS Junior-Young Riders Cup

Junior rider Carlijn Vaessen and young rider Jasmien de Koeyer became the winners of the first leg of the 2016-2017 KNHS Junior-Young Riders Cup competition held at equestrian centre De Kroo in Nieuw en St. Joosland on 28 December 2016. The 2016-2017 KNHS Junior-Young Riders Cup is a show circuit which serves as squad and CDI team selection trial and is sponsored by MDH Kostendrukker.

In the junior division the 18-year old Vaessen finished 2016 and her last year at junior riders' level with a victory at De Kroo. Aboard the bay KWPN bred Fossbury (by Ampere) she scored a winning 71.31%. Sem Stiemer and the Dutch bred Waldemar (by Negro) followed in a distance with a 68.42% that placed her second. Thalia Rockx, who has been competed at young riders as well as Grand Prix level this year, presented the home bred Cenda da la Fazenda (by Don Schufro) in the junior division and finished third with 67.57%.

Judge Ruud Schaefer commented that, "there was decent riding. Only two of the twenty combinations did not place. We as judges noticed that there is still work to be done on the fine tuning of the tests and the onset of movements such as shoulder in and the half passes."

Local hero Jasmien de Koeyer bagged the victory at young riders' level at her home show. Aboard the talented Dutch bred Esperanza (by Desperados) she topped the board with 70.96%. Lisanne Zoutendijk and the German warmblood Ringo Star (by Riccione) finished second with 69.12%, while Thalia Rockx and her Grand Prix schoolmaster Verdi de la Fazenda (by Florett As) were third with 68.38%/

"There is still room for improvement in the results of the young riders," said judge Jeannette Wolfs. "Top form was not there yet and that showed which pretty much everyone. We thought it was a fun group to judge with a couple of good horses."
