Following the inclusion of Parzival on the 2017 Dutch Grand Prix dressage squad, speculations arose online whether Adelinde Cornelissen has changed her mind about the retirement of her now 20-year old medal winning ride.
The Dutch rider, however, has confirmed on her website that Parzival "is really retired."
Parzival's 2016 scores still count for a 2017 submission to the Dutch Olympic A-squad, but the rider already decided in the autumn that Rio was the last competition Parzival (by Jazz x Ulft) attended.
"Of course it's fun to see that Parzival's scores of last year are still good enough for a spot on the squad, but we won't compete anymore," said Cornelissen. "I ride Parzival every day, often in the forest. He needs the exercise because he's still fit and fresh."
"Parzival retired quietly this autumn and there will be a retirement ceremony, "how and when, you'll hear from me," Cornelissen explained.
