Well known KWPN breeder and stallion owner Cees Broere passed away on Friday morning 24 February 2017. He was 83 years old.
Broere accumulated his wealth with a travel agency and horses were his favourite pastime.
He garnered most fame when he acquired KWPN the licensed stallion Jazz (by Cocktail). Jazz became the most significant sire for the stud. Broere first bought a share in the Jazz ownership syndicate led by Nico Witte and Bob van Rijsdijk and later on he acquired full ownership of the now 26-year old stallion.
At Broere Stud in Ablasserdam, The Netherlands, the dressage management was in charge of two riders, first Liseon Kamper and then Kirsten Beckers. Beckers competed Jazz at international Grand Prix level. Broere also bought Westpoint after he became the World Young Horse Champion under Emmelie Scholtens. Other significant Broere dressage horses were Montecristo, Argentino, Bristol, Obelisk, Phoenix, Valdez, and Ufo.
On a breeding level, the mare Gemsch (by Ulft x Amor) became the foundation mare of the yard, producing the licensed stallion Norway (by Jazz) and keur mare Melody (by Iglesias). Cees also bred several successful show jumpers.
In 2014 Cees Broere was proclaimed Breeder of the Year by the KWPN Region South-Holland. The past few years Cees began to struggle with his health and his son Anne stepped in as managing director.
