Former German Olympic medal winning Ulla Salzgeber has added a new horse to her string, the 5-year old Hanoverian Federball. The horse has made its show debut in new ownership with Ulla's stable jokcey Marianne Fichtelmann.
Federball is a 2012 born Hanoverian, bred by Henrik Auhagen and originally named Firefox. He is by Feuerspiel out of Ballestra (by Preussenprinz x Polargeist x Polifax). He was previously owned by Mathias Johannes Nieuwkamer.
The chestnut gelding has very limited show experience. He was competed at four regional shows in 2016 under Fritzie Röder. Feuerball did the riding horse test in Selsingen, Utzingen, Kirchwalsede and Verden.
The horse has now been sold to Ulla Salzgeber and he made his show debut under Fichtelmann last weekend at the local show in Eicherloh, Germany. The pair placed 6th in the A-level dressage horse class with a 7.8.
Ulla was a bit disappointed about the score of her new horse. "I watched a few of the groups before and was surprised by the result," she said. "But that is what we dressage riders have to accept: the verdict of the judges. Understand we don't, though, but we love what we do and that's why we don't give up."
