The German A-team riders will be gathering for the first official training camp of the 2017 show season held at the DOKR headquarters in Warendorf, Germany, from Wednesday till Friday 12 - 14 April 2017.
The training camp will follow its traditional format of a training session in front of team trainers Monica Theodorescu and Jonny Hilberath, with a video analysis following. Attention will also be paid to physiotherapy. Each day will conclude with a team dinner.
"We chose this date in April to prepare for the coming outdoor season which will start for some of the horse/rider combinations in Hagen two weeks later or Mannheim three weeks later," Monica Theodorescu told Eurodressage.
The German A-team includes Anabel Balkenhol, Jessica von Bredow-Werndl, Kristina Bröring-Sprehe, Fabienne Lütkemeier, Sönke Rothenberger, Hubertus Schmidt, Dorothee Schneider and Isabell Werth. They will not only be bringing their A-team listed horses, but also their second rides and some younger horses.
"The riders want to take the opportunity to also train their upcoming horses in a different surrounding," said Theodorescu. "We (Jonny and I) also have the chance to see and support the riders with these horses."
Biggest absentee at the training camp will be Dorothee Schneider's Olympic ride Showtime (by Sandro Hit) who is recovering from injury and still in a build-up phase. Instead Dorothee will be riding her newly A-team submitted Sammy Davis Jr. Jessica von Bredow is also not attending as she is six months pregnant and can no longer properly sit her horses at the moment to be training at top level.
"The last (few) years we also really enjoyed the time we all spent together and I guess that we will have a good team spirit again this time," Monica added.
