Former Australian team rider Matthew Dowsley has had a phenomenal start to the 2017 CDI Sydney with a remarkable three wins on the board on the first day of competition, 27 April 2017. Matthew won the international Prix St Georges and Grand Prix as well as the national Grand Prix.
Dowsley’s day of domination kicked off with the a victory in the national Grand Prix aboard Cheryl Smith's 12-year ld Australian bred Don Desandro (by Don Frederico x Sandro Hit) with a score of 67.460. He aced the class ahead of Glenda de Wit on the Australian bred Milfield Dominique (by Don Ramiro x APH Lubeck) with 65.26%.
Dowsley then quinellaed the international Prix St Georges, wowing the Sydney crowd on Denise Ceddia's 12-year old Australian warmblood AEA Prestige (by Prestige VDL) with a score of 73.632. This is the highest score in Sydney CDI history, overtaking Rachael Down’s previous record at the Sydney CDI on Silbermond (72.60%) from 2015. Furthermore, Matthew secured second place in this class on Lewis Newton's 9-year old Australian bred Ferdinand MD (by First Kiss) on 70.395%.
Matthew capped the day off with a win in the victory in the international Grand Prix with Diane Jenkyn's 12-year old Australian bred Adloo Richard (by Royal Hit x Aachen) on a score of 69.660. The pair edged out Brett Parbery with Susan Duddy's DP Weltmieser (by Weltmeyer) who were second with 68.740%. Judy Dierks and Vicki Newham's 11-year old Bavarian bred Diamond Star (by Diamond Hit x Pour Plaisir) were third with 68.480%.
“I’m thrilled with all my horses. It’s not that often that they do everything so perfectly all in one go. It’s super," said a happy Dowsley at the end of the day.
