Niekie Pienaar of Adelprag Friesian Stud Farm, the sponsor of South African Grand Prix rider Chere Burger, has bought two new horses in The Netherlands for Chere to ride: Maurits van Nassau and Handsome.
Aboard the Friesian stallion Anders, Chere Burger represented South Africa at the 2014 World Equestrian Games in Caen, France, and became a crowd favourite. In 2015 the duo did three more internationals in Nieuw en St. Hoosland, Roosendaal, and Hickstead, before Burger returned back to South Africa and disappear from the European scene.
As head rider at Adelprag stud, Chere continued to compete in just two 2* CDI's that were hosted in her country (Midrad, Stellenbosch). She has been showing Fernhill Derry, Rialdo Royal, Wybren van Ass and Anders.
De Hoefslag reported that Pienaar acquired two further irons in the fire: the Pinto Friesian Maurits van Naussau (by Willem van Nassau), who was trained up to Grand Prix level by Bennie van Es, and the 5-year old Friesian x KWPN cross Handsome (by Tietse D x Belisar).
Chere Burger told Eurodressage that her plans with both horses are, "to bring Maurits out in the Grand Prix one day and Handsome would start in the Young Horse Series we have in South Africa. Obviously taking him up the levels too."
The 34-year old Burger has no immediate plans to return to Europe to compete her horses there, but she has set her sights on the 2020 Olympics in Tokyo. "I'm training a super warmblood gelding now and would still like to do the Olympics one day with him," she explained.
The "super warmblood" is the 9-year old Oldenburg bred Quick Silver (by Quaterback x Stedinger) which Adelprag acquired in the summer of 2015 in The Netherlands.
