Former Swedish youth team rider Emelie Brolin has made a winning return to the show ring after a riding accident two months ago, which kept her grounded for a while.

At the beginning of March the 34-year old professional rider fell off a youngster, which left her unconscious and with internal bleeding in her lungs. The doctors ordered her to rest completely and only a month ago she slowly began riding again on the more experienced horses.

"I still have some pain in my neck, but in principle I'm back to full health," Brolin told Ridsport. "Stil I'm a bit careful and don't ride young horses, I focus on the competition horses."

At the regional show held at the Gnesta Riding Club on 30 April - 1 May 2017, Brolin made her come back, placing fifth in the Grand Prix (64.967%) and winning the Grand Prix Special (67.647%) on her long-time partner, the 16-year old Swedish warmblood Briman (by Briar x Martini), whom she began competing at international Grand Prix level in 2013.

"He has gone a bit up and down. A year ago he did not think doing the Grand Prix was fun, but now he feels very happy with the work," said Brolin.

Brolin was a member of the Swedish team at the 1999 and 2000 European Pony Championships, the 2003 and 2005 European Young Riders Championships, and 2005 Nordic Baltic Championships in Billund. A series of accidents have interrupted her career since then. In 2014 she got kicked in the face and underwent rhinoplastic surgery, and in 2016 a horse kicked her against the arm. In the summer of 2015 Briman underwent underwent laryngeal surgery.
