Madeleine Winter-Schulze has been bestowed with the German Rider Cross in Gold with diamonds, the highest distinction awarded to an equestrian personality by the German Equestrian Federation.
Winter-Schulze received the distinction during the annual general assembly of the German Equestrian Federation held this year in Stuttgart, Germany.
The Berlin born Madeleine Winter-Schulze was the 1959 German Champion in Dressage and the 1969 and 1975 German Champion in Show Jumping. For twelve years she was the representative for the DOKR dressage selection committee, she served as chef d'equipe on numerous occasions and is a member of the FN board of directors since 1997.
Madeleine inherited her fortune from her father Eduard, who was a prosperous businessman with a license to bottle Coca Cola in Germany and the chief representative for Volkswagen in the Berlin area, amongst other lines of trades.
In a special ceremony Winter-Schulze was honoured for her contribution to German equestrian sport. Jumping rider Ludwig Beerbaum and dressage rider Isabell Werth, who are long-time sponsored by Madeleine, were in attendance.
Madeleine received the award from count Breido zu Rantzau, the president of the German FN, who was flanked by the German Olympic Sports' Committee president Alfons Hörmann. Only two other persons ever received the Golden Riders Cross with diamonds before: Liselott Rheinberger-Linsenhoff and Count Dieter von Landsberg-Velen.
