2016 Dutch pony team reserve rider Marten Luiten has been competing his pony sparingly this 2017 show season, but each time they turned out, they were in a winning mood. Luiten won the sixth and final leg of the 2016-2017 KNHS FEI Pony Cup show circuit in Zuidwolde, The Netherlands, on Saturday 13 May 2017.
Luiten only contested two legs of the KNHS FEI Pony Cup circuit, also known as the Felix Juristen Cup, and won both of them. The 15-year old and Movie Star (by Hagelkruis Valentijn) scored 71.67% for the victory. Floor van der Kuijl and Champ of Daily (by FS Don't Worry) were the runners-up with 70.09%, while Shanna Baars and the former Dutch team pony Don Camillo du Bois (by Don't Worry) were third with 68.97%.
Dutch pony team trainer and judge Monique Peutz was present in Zuidwolde to assess the Dutch pony riders. "It was a super nice show in Zuidwolde. It was a grass arena but the footing was perfect. The top group rode really strongly. Winner Marten was very focused and excelled in the canter tour," said Peutz. "Number two Floor van der Kuijl I've seen her ride nicely before and now she was really good. She rode a very correct test with a beautiful harmony and good execution of all movements. Shanna Baars did a nice round too. She's being more gutsy each time and the canter was now well ridden."
The 2017 KNHS FEI Pony Cup Finals will be held in Roosendaal on 1 July 2017.
