Graced with summer temperatures and constant sunshine, the 2017 CDI Roosendaal on 1 - 4 June 2017 brought together riders from The Netherlands, Belgium, Great Britain, France, Denmark, Germany and Hungary. Especially the youth riders' classes were filled to the roof and with competition going on in three arenas, the programme was action packed.
In the pony division Dutch Marten Luiten was the one to beat aboard his pony Movie Star (by Hagelkruis Valentijn). In 2016 Luiten was the team alternate for the European Championships but this year he has proven to be Holland's number one with victories in all classes he has entered. Luiten has been competing Movie Star only sparingly at a few national shows and just two internationals, both in Holland. It remains to be seen where he stands in the face of more competition from pony power from Germany, Denmark, and Great Britain.
In the junior division Holland's unbeatable pair, Daphne van Peperstraten and Cupido (by Johnson x Duko), was also a league of their own in Roosendaal, winning all three classes ahead of Zoe Kuintjes on her new ride Brittsion, an 11-year old Dutch mare by Sir Donnerhall x Krack C, previously competed by Derk Schekkerman and Romy Kat.
At young riders level the trophies were hard fought with Julia Groenhart on First Barichello (by Florencio) winning the team test and Jasmien de Koeyer on Esperanza (by Desperados) leading the individual test. The Young Riders Kur to Music is scheduled for Sunday.
Anne Meulendijks and Avanti (by United) reigned in the Under 25 classes, winning the Inter II with 73.711% and the Short Grand Prix with 72.186%. The Kur to Music is scheduled for Saturday night.
