Three Hungarian dressage riders have achieved their official qualification scores to make up a team and represent Hungary at the 2017 European Dressage Championships in Gothenburg, Sweden, on 22 - 27 August 2017. The last time Hungary fielded more than one individual at a European Championship was in 1981.
At the 2017 CDI-W Brno last weekend, Nikolett Szalai (Willy The Hit), Robert Acs (Rasputin/Flash Dancer IM) and Aniko Losonczy (Mystery), a trio of riders all based at the Mariakalnok equestrian centre, achieved their final qualification scores. The have secured their spot on the team.
Other Hungarian Grand Prix riders are Gabor Nemeth (Le Baldi), Viktoria Nebel (Ready for Impossible), and Emese Vagi (Discovery Hit). The official qualification period for Gothenburg is 1 January 2016 - 24 July 2017 and neither Nemeth, Nebel nor Vagi have yet achieved the qualification criterium of 2 x 65%.
The last time Hungary had more than one rider at a continental championship was at the 1981 European Championships in Laxenburg, Austria, where Gyula Dallos and Robert Acs showed. Since then Dallos represented his country as an individual in the 1980s-1990s. He won kur bronze at the 1993 European Championships in Lipica, Hungary's greates dressage feat so far.
