The German equestrian federation, its selectors and team trainer Sebastian Heinze announced the team that will represent Germany at the 2017 European Under 25 Championships to be held in Lamprechtshausen, Austria on 30 August - 3 September 2017.
Taken this year's results from the Piaff Forderpreis competitions and CDI shows into account and with the final observation and selection trial ridden in Verden on 5 August, the German FN was able to announce their pick.
The German Under 25 team includes:
- Lisa-Maria Klössinger (24) - FBW Daktari
- Bianca Nowag (22) - Fair Play RB
- Juliette Piotrowski (24) - Sir Diamond
- Charlott-Maria Schürmann (24) - Burlington FRH
The first reserve is Ninja Rathjens (23) on Emilio, the second reserve is 2016 Piaff Forderpreis winner Franziska Stieglmaier (24) on Lukas.
The inclusion of Charlott Maria Schurmann in the German Under 25 team certainly raises eyebrows. The German Under 25 team got beaten by The Netherlands on home turf at the 2017 CDIO-U25 Aachen, which seems to have led to extreme measures. Schurmann and Burlington have been competing at senior Grand Prix level since December 2014 (!!) but have now dropped back to Under 25 level to provide more strength to the German U25 team.
