Three Swedish warmblood breeders have joined forces and established a trust, towards which fans of Swedish breeding and dressage can donate, in order to support talented Swedish riders who have no strong financial background.
The initiative for the "Swedish Warmblood and Riders Trust" comes from breeders Ulrica Jacobs, Gustaf Johansson and Malin Myrman.
"The trust has been created to support swedish riders as well as swedish breeders," Myrman told Eurodressage. "It is an amition to unite the breeders with the sport and with really good riders."
This year they have selected Therese Nilshagen as the rider they want to support with their trust. With all the funds gathered they aim to fully pay for a foal that will be given to Nilshagen as a future prospect. The foal will be bought at the 2017 Swedish Warmblood Elite Foal Auction in Flyinge on 6 October 2017. Nilshagen herself will be bidding on the foal of her choice.
The Trust group believes that "Therese Nilshagen is a great inspiration to all young riders struggling in a costly sport. She started her riding carrier at a swedish riding school and has thereafter worked hard, without big sponsors, to her way top the top."
Nilshagen was the Swedish team anchor rider who secured team bronze at the 2017 European Championships in Gothenburg two weeks ago. She also finished fourth individually in the Grand Prix Special on Dante Weltino, a horse which she trained from 5-years old to Grand Prix.
The money gathered in the trust can come from private individuals, companies or associations. "We hope this to be a long-term support for Swedish riders and the Swedish breed," Myrman added.
