Zofia Baran became the new Polish FEI Dressage Pony Champion at the 2017 Polish Pony Championships which were held during the National Young Horse Championships in Strzegom, Poland, on 22 - 24 September 2017. Seven combinations contested the FEI pony level championship, which faced extra challenges when a torrential downpour flooded the show arena on the last two days of competition.
The Warsaw based Zofia Baran and the 13-year old German bred Summersby (by Sterling) faced tough competition from Ewa Golubinska on the 10-year old Dutch Welsh pony Leuns Veld's Winston (by Bodo). The pair were neck to neck but Baran topped the board in the end. Baran was third in the team test with 64.786%, and first in individual (68.415) and kur to music (69.750%). She totalled 202.951 points for the champion's title.
Golubinska was not easily beaten and stayed on Baran's heels throughout the weekend. She won the team test with 66.282%, and was second in the individual (67.724%) and kur (68.792%). She finished with the silver medal on 202.798 points, just 0.154 short of gold.
"The Polish Championshipswere the most important competition for me this season, which is why I am very pleased with the results that I have achieved," said Golubinska.
The bronze medal went to Julia Bilicka on the 8-year old German bred gelding Donevan (by Erfttal Duncan). She was second in the team test ith 65.256% and third in the individual (65.967%) and kur (67.292%). Her total of 198.515 points placed her third.
