2017 Swedish Young Horse Championships

The 3-year old Springbank II, the 4-year old Skywalker, the 5-year old Astoria, the 6-year old Tiger G, and the 7-year old Zidney became the grand winners of the 2017 Swedish Young Horse Championships held at the national equestrian centre in Flyinge, Sweden, on 2 - 7 October 2017.

In the 3-year old division judges Isobel Wessels, Mollis Persson and Susanne Rudholm awarded the highest score to Spanish Severo Jurado Lopez on the Swedish warmblood stallion Springbank II (by Skovens Rafael x De Niro). Bred by Vastra Hoby and owned by the breeder in partnership with Tina Hennix and Andreas Helgstrand, Springbank II scored a total of 97.200 to be the supreme winner in the class. The chestnut stallion got 9.8 for trot, 9.3 for walk, 9.5 for canter, and 10 for submission and general impression. Ida-Linn Lundholm and Patrik Hannell's Swedish stallion Formalin (by Floricello x D-Day) became the runner-up with 90.00 points. The black got 9 for trot, 8.5 for walk, 9 for canter an submission and 9.5 for general impression. Finnish Yvonne Osterholm and Per-Arne Persson's Swedish stallion Demand (by Ampere x Don Schufro) landed the bronze with 84.60 points. This bay stallion got 8 for walk and trot, 8.5 for canter, 8.8 for submission and 9 for general impression.

In the 4-year old division guest judge rider Charlotte Dujardin sorted the field and decided upon the final ranking after 11 horses qualified for this guest judge finals through a warm up round. Dujardin favoured Cecilia Kristoffersen's Swedish bred Skywalker (by Zuidenwind x Bernstein) and rewarded the horse 9.5 for rideability and potential. With 95.00 points this bay gelding grabbed the title. Madelene Engelke's Swedish bred stallion Shizeido GJ (by Sezuan x Danzas) was the reserve champion with 9.3 for rideability and 9.5 for potential (total 94.00 points). Sandra Sterntorp's Swedish Diamond (by San Amour x Corland) finished third with 92.50 points after receiving 9 for rideability and 9.5 for potential.

In the 5-year old division judges Isobel Wessels, Mats Eriksson and Annette Fransen-Iacobaeus preferred Jeanna Hogberg and Christina Olsson's Swedish mare Astoria (by Sir Donnerhall II x Quaterback) and scored the pair a winning 91.800 points. Astoria earned 9.2 for trot and canter, 9 for walk and submission and 9.5 for general impression. Marcus Lagergren and his Swedish bred gelding Balenciaga (by Bellagio x Richfield) were the reserve champions with 85.00 points. The bay gelding got 8 for walk, 8.5 for trot, 9 for canter, 8 for submission and 9 for general impression. Mikaela Alderin-Danielsson and Frederic Spang's Swedish gelding Hilus MHB (by Johnson x Don Primero) were the third place-getters with 85.00 points, but this horse got 7.5 for walk, 8.5 for trot, 9 for canter, 8.5 for submission and 9 for general impression.

Karin Oljemark on Tiger G Karin Oljemark and her 2017 World Young Horse Championship ride Tiger G (by Tuschinski x Sir Donnerhall) bested the field in the 6-year old division. Maria Agren's Swedish bred bay gelding earned 89.600 points after scoring 7.9 for walk, 9.5 for trot, 9 for canter, 8.9 for submission and 9.5 for general impression. Pernilla André Hokfelt and Eva Cavell's Swedish stallion Cash Flow (by Cashmur x Don Romantic) were the reserve champions with 88.80 points. The stallion earned 7 for walk, 9.4 for trot, 9.5 for canter, 9 for submission and 9.5 for general impression. Yvonne Osterholm and Per Arne Persson's Swedish mare Dorina (by Belissimo M x Don Schufro) landed third place with 87.40 points. The bay mare got 8.5 for walk, 8.8 for trot, 8.6 for canter, 8.8 for submission, 9 for general impression.

Seven horses contested the 7-year old finals and Stefan Jansson topped the board with his Swedish bred Zidney (by Zuidenwind x Laurentio). The pair scored a winning 74.922% and stayed just ahead of Mikaela Alderin-Danielsson on the Swedish mare Bossanova YL (by Bocelli x Lobo) who finished second with 74.123%. Louise Hegbart and the Swedish bred Allantois (by Ampere x D-Day) finished with bronze on a 69.490%.
