Steffen Peters has made his winning show debut aboard Akiko Yamazaki's newest acquisition, Suppenkasper. At the 2017 CDN Del Mar "Spooktacular Halloween" show, the pair scored 75.700% for the victory in a field of 10 competitors. Charlotte Jorst had scheduled to make her show debut in the same class on Lorenzo, but scratched last minute.
German veterinarian David Lichtenberg sold the 9-year old Dutch warmblood Suppenkasper (by Spielberg x Krack C) in July 2017 after his wife Helen Langehanenberg had successfully campaigned the gelding at Grand Prix level in the spring of 2017.
At the 2017 CDN Del Mar a little more than three months Peters scored 75.700% in their first Grand Prix together. The class was judge by Hilda Gurney.
"Mopsi was great yesterday," Peters told Eurodressage. "I really liked the walk trot and canter extensions. His piaffe and passage work felt very solid as well. Most importantly, he looks very happy doing his job."
Peters also made his come back on Akiko's 10-year old Rhinelander mare Rosamunde (by Rock Forever x Fidermark) who got a long summer break after the mare last performed in the CDI Del Mar in April 2017. The pair finished third with 72.600%.
Peters has two irons in the fire now for U.S. team selection for the 2018 World Equestrian Games in Tryon. "We'll start in January with the first CDI," Peters said about his show plans with Suppenkasper.
Charlotte Jorst had planned on making her show debut on the 11-year old Bavarian bred Lorenzo (by Lord Loxley x Rubin Royal), who finished fifth in the Kur at the 2016 Rio Olympics under Spanish Severo Jurado Lopez, but the horse was scratched after he suffered from a spider bite. With her long-time Grand Prix partner, 14-year old Dutch warmblood stallion Nintendo (by Negro x Monaco) she was second in Del Mar with 74.500%.
Dawn White-O'Connor and Yamzaki's Westfalian gelding Legolas (by Laomedon x Florestan II) were fourth with 71.500%. White-O'Conner also premiered Steffen Peters' 2017 small tour horse Bailarino (by Breitling W x de Niro) at Grand Prix level. They were eighth with 65.500%. On Sunday 8 October, Dawn rode both horses in other Grand Prix class judged by Rogers. She won with Legolas on 74.400% and was second with Bailarino with 70.100%.
