The Westfalian Stallion Licensing committee spent four days assessing a large group of 2.5 year old colts at the pre-selection days from 10 - 13 October 2017 in Munster-Handorf. No less than 47 colts were selected for the licensing and Goldberg became the top producer.
For the last few years the Westfalian society has been running a very open-breed policy, welcoming non-Westfalian registered and bred colts to the licensing.
With his first crop presented at this year's pre-selection, the 6-year old KWPN bred and German owned Goldberg (by Amazing Star x San Remo x Jazz) was the top producer with five colts selected for the licensing. The dark bay Goldberg was bought by Axel and Sandro Schürner for 70,000 euro at the 2011 KWPN Foal Auction in Dronten. They presented him at the Westfalian licensing and have been standing him at stud since then. So far Goldberg disappointed in sport. He was only shown 3 times before he moved to Hubertus Schmidt's barn in January 2016 and Schmidt showed him once at L-level in June 2016. The colt then sustained an injury there and has been recovering ever since. Fortunately his first crop seems to have convinced the licensing committee.
Five KWPN stallions set the tone at the Westfalian pre-selection: Goldberg, Vitalis, Vivaldi, Franklin and Apache.
