Spanish Beatriz Ferrer-Salat became the home side hero at the CDI 5* held at the Madrid Horse Week in the Spanish capital on 25 - 26 November 2017. In a field of only 9 riders, Ferrer-Salat and her top horse Delgado scored two very easy victories far ahead of the competition.
Spanish Olympian Ferrer-Salat and her 16-year old Westfalian gelding Delgado (by De Niro x Weltmeyer) won the Grand Prix with 76.320%, almost a full seven percent ahead of the second placed Spanish duo Jose Antonia Garcia Mena on his newest ride, Benzi Landro. The 11-year old Dutch warmblood gelding (by Olivi x Inspekteur) is owned by Mercedes Freixas Fuste and was previously competed at small tour level by Marçal Sabe Canellas. The new combination scored 69.760% for second place. Luxembourg's Sascha Schulz and the Lusitano Dragao (by Unico x Xaquiro) landed third place with 69.680%.
The fifth edition of Madrid Horse Week came to a close on Sunday afternoon 26 November with the Grand Prix freestyle. The entire arena fell into complete silence as soon as Ferrer-Salat began her Kur. They were the undisputable winners with a score of 80.825%. José Antonio García Mena had a nice ride with Benzi Ladro and finished second with a score of 75,800%. Third was the Portuguese Rodrigo Torres with Califa II. They performed to the rhythm of “Another Brick in the Wall” by Pink Floyd and scored 72.275%.
"Delgado was much better (in the Kur) than in the Grand Prix, more determined and expressive," Ferrer-Salat explained about her two rides. "In the Grand Prix he got a little self-conscious when he walked into the arena and didn't shine as he much as he can. Yesterday I warmed up with more energy and we went into the arena with more security."
""I am delighted," she added to Top Iberian. "Now we are going to keep Delgado happy and in shape, this is the goal each day, and in two weeks we will compete Geneva. After that he will get a break and I'll focus on next season and my young horses Elegance, Lady Gaga and Diamond Hit. They will all compete at the national show in Barcelona and then we will see how everything goes. I will make my debut with Elegance at Prix St Georges level next season. I am very excited about all my horses."
