Dutch stallion owner and breeder Gert-Jan van Olst has revealed his collection of 37 young dressage stars that will be up for auction in the 2018 Van Olst Sales taking place at his yard in Den Hout, The Netherlands, on 30 March 2018.
The 2018 collection includes approximately six licensed stallions, 23 saddle broken and lightly trained 3-year old geldings, three 4-year old geldings and about six 3-year old mares. Several wild card horses will be added to complete the collection in the next two weeks.
World Wide Interest in Top Collection
“Each year international interest in the auction increases," said organizer Gert-Jan van Olst. "During the last edition a couple of the most expensive horses went to good clients in Australia. We also sell to America, Japan, UK, Scandinavia, Germany and France. We have a wide distribution area. Yet I really like it when a lot of quality also remains in the Netherlands."
The Van Olst Sales collection is particularly strong as the horses have been hand picked at loyal breeders using Van Olst stallions as well as home bred and reared youngsters.
"Take for example our home bred King Kong. This Glamourdale son is out of our own mare Sugonda. She also produced the Grand Prix horse Zhidane, who is competing at international-level with my wife (Anne van Olst) Taikoen (by Negro) is also from this bloodline," said Gert-Jan. "Kingsley will also attract attention I expect. This own-bred product is out of Cinderella. This mare scored exceptionally well in the IBOP gradings as a three- and four-year-old. His half-sister is the talented mare Nessah (by Nespresso); a big mare with tremendous expression. Both Kingsley and Nessah are the result of embryo transplants and are very interesting horses.”
Auction Horse in the Spotlight: Kingsley
One of the collection highlights is the 3-year old tall bay gelding Kingsley (by George Clooney x Lord Leatherdale x Almost Prints J).
Kingsley has got it all! This George Clooney-son looks splendid and has a kind temperament. He has much presence and good presentation. He has nice self-carriage and good silhouette. He is a horse with an exceptional future and a lot of Grand Prix potential. With his kind temperament and sensitivity under the saddle he is the perfect horse for a female rider.
Sire George Clooney is showing great talent for the highest-level collection and is trained to Small Tour-level. Kingsley’s dam Cinderella, by Lord Leatherdale, is also the dam of the NRPS-stallion Don Joe (by Diëgo) who competed for England at the 2017 World Championship for Young Dressage Horses in Ermelo.
