Ingrid Klimke's number one Grand Prix horse Geraldine will be taking a year off to recover from injury.
The 10-year old Rhinelander mare Geraldine is by Furst Grandios out of Casablanca (by Tolstoi). She is owned by Klimke in partnership with the breeder Ulrich Zeising and Canadian owner Faith Berghuis.
Geraldine made her Grand Prix debut at the 2017 CDI Munich Indoor last Novemeber, where she finished second in the Grand Prix (72.520%) and fifth in the Special (69.823%).
One month later she was scheduled to compete in the 2017 Louisdor Cup Finals for German developing Grand Prix horses but had to be withdrawn due to fitness issues. The mare contested the warm up round and was third, but had to be retired in the final round because she was uneven.
The chestnut mare has sustained an injury to a ligament and needs time to recover.
"Geraldine won't be going to shows in 2018 because she needs to have a break for health reasons," Klimke officially stated.
Klimke's PR agent added to Eurodressage that, "Geraldine stands in the pasture and she is not being put in foal this year," debunking the rumour that Geraldine is being bred this year.
