The American owned Hanoverian licensed stallion Rosenthal passed away at age 19 on 16 May 2018.
"It is with a heavy heart that we had to say goodbye to our beloved Rosenthal last night," said owner Larissa Barilar of High Point Hanoverians in the U.S.A. "He will forever have a special place in many people's hearts. We were lucky to have him just shy of his 20th birthday."
Rosenthal was a 1998 born Hanoverian stallion by Rubinstein out of Kim (by Karon x Woermann).
He was bred by Wilhelm Kreibaum and purchased as a foal by Gudula Vorwerk who sold the black as a weanling to the late Angela Barilar.
He was first licensed in the U.S.A. by the Oldenburg society in 2002. He did his stallion performance test in 2006 and finished fifth.
He was competed by Inga Jahnke up to national Prix St Georges level in the U.S.A. His most famous offspring is Rosalut NHF, who was the 4 and 5-year old U.S. Young Horse Champion in 2014 and 2015.
Rosenthal sired three licensed sons: Rafael, Rock Solid, RS Reiner K. In the U.S.A. he particularly influenced the hunter circuit. He was ranked number 1 as Hunter Breeding Stallion of the Year in 2016 and 2017. he was also #1 USDF Dressage Stallion of the Year 2007.
Larissa Barilar told Eurodressage that Rosenthal's condition deteriorated rapidly and they are still unsure what caused his demise.
"We are absolutely devastated," said Larissa. "We are not sure what happened. He just went down hill very fast within about three days."
