Grand Prix riders Charlotte Haid-Bondergaard, Regina Isachkina, Charlotte Esping and Rishat Sabitov became the big tour winners at a windy 2018 CDI-W Sopot on 28 June - 1 July 2018.
Beautiful but rather windy weather greeted riders from eight countries at the 2018 CDI-W Sopot in Poland.
The event, which was organized for the second time this year, was staged at the historical race course of Sopot, which underwent a complete renovation in 2013. With 120 new boxes, fiber sand on all arenas, big public stands and easy access to the city and seaside spots, the show in Sopot offered a holiday atmosphere.
For 2018 Sopot received World Cup status and Swedish Charlotte Haid Bondergaard won the CDI-W Grand Prix on her 13-year old French bred gelding Roberto des Frettes. They scored 71,522%. The World Cup kur to music, however, was won by Russian rider Regina Isachkina and her 9-year old black stallion Sun of May Life. They scored 73,325% and referred Haid-Bondergaard to a second place and Danish based German Maik Kohlschmidt to third.
In 3* big tour leg the Swedish anthem was played for Charlotte Esping and Ciwi who in fact tied with her country mate Sofia Moller on Royalist. The Grand Prix Special was won by Polish rider Rishat Sabitov and his family owned Azzaro.
In Small Tour successful former eventing rider Magdalena Zalewsk, made a winning debut at an international dressage competition ! She rode the 9-year old Westfalian gelding Quintessenz Sas, owned by Sylwia Ruta. This pair won all three classes scoring 69,618% in Prix St Georges, 72,029% in Intermediaire I and 73,090% in Intermediaire I Freestyle.
"The homey atmosphere and well prepared facility in Sopot was highly appreciated by both national and international riders who promised to put this new show in their calendar already for a November indoor edition, to which we are now looking forward," said Sopot press officer Natalia Smagacz.
