The 4-year old Jameson RS2, the 5-year old Imagine and the 6-year old Hartsuijker became the winners of the semi-finals of the 2018 Pavo Cup which takes place during the KWPN Horse Days in Ermelo, The Netherlands, on Wednesday 15 August 2018.
Marieke van der Putten steered the KWPN licensing champion Jameson RS2 (by Zack x Negro) to victory in the the 4-year old semi-finals. The pair scored 93.8 points to edge out German Eva Möller on Andreas Helgstrand's KWPN licensed stallion Jovian (by Apache) who finished second with 90.6 points. Katia Smets and Jack Sparrow D.E. (by Desperado x Negro) landed third place with 89.2 points.
Judge Henriette Smits praised the winner for being "Nice in the frame, off the hand and in an sympathetic image. In trot we thought he was lightfooted and with nice technique in the forehand and a hindleg always under. The walk is good and the canter has much balance and technique. He has a chance for the title." About Jovian, Smits stated that "the walk needed to be more through the body, so with a 7.8 that was his lesser part. Jovian shows good ability to collect and extend and trots off the ground."
In the 5-year old division World Young Horse Championship finalists Bart Veeze and the KWPN mare Imagine (by Dream Boy x Jackson) topped the board with 92.2 points. Emmelie Scholtens and the KWPN licensed stallion Indian Rock (by Apache x Vivaldi) were the runners-up with 90.6 points, while Bart Veeze and the KWPN licensed Impostantos (by Wynton x Krack C) were third with 90.4 points.
The class was judged by Arie Hamoen and Toine Hoefs, who praised Imagine: "The trot was the highlight: so well carried, so naturally presented. Really a super test." About Indian Rock, they said that he is "an impressive appearance. He was a bit impressed by the surrounding, so he could have been a bit more off the hand. The highest mark was for the canter, although we also gave 9s for trot and potential as a dressage horse."
In the 6-year old division Dinja van Liere and the liver chestnut Hartsuijker (by Johnson x Scandic) topped the board with 89 points and stayed quite ahead of the second placed pair, Edward Gal on the KWPN licensed Total U.S. (by Totilas x Sir Donnerhall), who finished second with 85.8 points. Van Liere also grabbed third place on the KWPN mare Haute Couture (by Connaisseur x Krack C) .
The class was judged by Christa Larmoyeur and Bert Rutten and they were thrilled with the winner. "He's a pleasure to watch, presented in such a nice and honest way. Hartsuijker has three good basic gaits and moves with much harmony through the test." Larmoyeur addressed that Total U.S. showed amazing bits but can not sustain them for long. "There are parts where Total U.S. beats Hartsuijker, but especially in trot the image is not consistent. The canter we rewarded with 9.5, because in that gait the stallion paints a beautiful picture with Edward Gal, who knows exactly how to present a horse."
