German European Championship team gold medal winning pony Der Kleine König has found a new rider that will continue the show career of the chestnut FEI Dressage Pony: Laura Amelie Borges.
Der Kleine Konig is a 10-year old Rhinelander bred gelding by Dornik's Donovan out of Donna (by FS Don't Worry). He is bred by Uta Craemer.
Under Julia Barbian the pony made its international FEI debut in 2015 at the CDI Stadl Paura and first caught the eye of the German pony team trainer and selector in 2017. He was member of the team gold medal winning German team at the 2017 European Pony Championships in Kaposvar, Hungary. The pony was withdrawn from the further tests at the Europeans because during the team medal ceremony and victory lap, he stepped into the railing and was no longer fit to compete.
In 2018 Barbian and Der Kleine König peaked and won the CDI's in Nieuw en St. Joosland and Hagen. At the 2018 Europeans in Biship Burton he won team gold and Kur bronze. At the 2018 German Pony Championships in Munich in September, the pair landed an eighth place in the final ranking.
The 14-year old Laura Amelie Borges has now taken over the ride on Der Kleine König, but the pony stays on the ownership of the Barbian family. Borges trains with Jana Freund.
