For Danish WEG team rider Daniel Bachmann Andersen and his mount Blue Hors Don Olymbrio it was a homeside victory at the 2018 CDI Randbøl on 9 - 11 November 2018.
In a field of seventeen combinations, Bachmann and Don Olymbrio (by Jazz x Ferro) won the Grand Prix with a score of 74.500% and the freestyle with 80.075% to claim two big tour victories at the Blue Hors Dressage Festival hosted at his home base, Blue Hors Stud, in Randbøl, Denmark.
In the Kur to Music they cracked the magical 80.075% barrier, Don Olymbrio's first time over 80% and an improvement of an almost full three percent on his previous freestyle record score. The pair rode to music from Spider Man and Deathpool 2, arranged by Edgar Gutierrez.
"Don O felt really good, only a little tense in the canter tour in the Grand Prix, but in the freestyle it was better," Bachmann Andersen told Eurodressage. "In general I was very happy with both tests and I know where he has to be stronger and what I have to work on.
Daniel attributes the great improvement the liver chestnut licensed KWPN stallion has made to dedicated work over the summer.
"Over the summer I kept him home on purpose so he could get stronger and I have worked him a lot over the back and lateral work to strengthen and supple him at the same time," said Daniel. "Plus on the days he covered, I did light work, so he could remain the strength and not get tired. He has been very good at all the exercises for a long time, so I don’t do so much of the Grand Prix movements, but more on strengthening his back. So far it is paying off."
With three Grand Prix horses to campaign (Don Olymbrio, Zack and Zepter) Daniel can prepare a good show schedule and conserve his horses' energy the right way. His next show will be the Saab Top 10 CDI Stockholm in December. "Next year Don O will go only a few shows in the winter and we'll focus on the outdoor season," Daniel added.
