The recent successes at the KWPN Championships again underline Borculo Elite Foal Auction’s strong reputation. Forty years after its first edition, former Borculo foals still set the tone when it comes to top results in sport as well as breeding.
Eye-catchers are three-year-old Lolana (ds. Vivaldi, breeder A. Dijkstra) who is sired by Borculo sold KWPN stallion Galaxie and won the national championship title, and also KWPN stallion Imposantos (Wynton x Krack C, breeder W. Wijnen) who repeated last year’s Pavo Cup victory with Bart Veeze. But even more successes were to come, also for foals from the current Borculo Elite Foal Auction’s collection. They finished in the National Foal Inspection’s top ten group, an achievement Borculo foals have developed into a tradition.
Special Borculo Elite Foal Auction jubilee edition
Together with the other dressage foals from the strict auction selections they form the exquisite group of 58 to be auctioned by Frederik De Backer on Thursday 29 August at the appealing PSC Lichtenvoorde accommodation in Vragender (Netherlands). For the first time in the history of this auction, buyers can now make their live real-time bid online. All they have to do is register on the Borculo Elite Foal Auction’s website first. The 2019 dressage foal collection comes with high expectations. Holding the Borculo Elite Foal Auction in high regard, many renowned breeders again offered their foals to be reviewed. Our selectors Linda van Doorn and Peter Wetzelaer assisted by scouts Emmy de Jeu and Marcel Sterrenburg applied the high Borculo standards in terms of conformation, movement and pedigree, which resulted in a collection of strongly bred, exceptionally moving dressage foals with a bright future in sport and breeding ahead of them.
Dream Boy, Desperado, Franklin and Toto Jr.
These delightful foals’ sires are a wonderful mix of up-and-coming new talent and active Grand Prix stallions from Dutch, German and Danish soil, with names such as Dream Boy (2x), Desperado, Franklin (3x), Glock’s Toto Jr. (3x), Daily Diamond (3x), Bernay (2x), Escamillo (2x), Escolar, Glamourdale, Valverde, Springbank II VH and Blue Hors stallions Kingston (2x), Farrell (2x) and Zackerey. They were combined with outstanding and often famous dam lines rich in Grand Prix sport in several generations.
Full sister to legend Valegro and famous Dolly
Dream Boy for example, like Desperado part of the Dutch silver medal team at the EC, supplies a striking filly whose De Niro dam is a sister to Grand Prix horses Orlandus (Lorraine van den Brink) and Partoes (David Wrightman). The popular Franklin supplies a colt whose dam also produced Big Tour stallion Nespresso (Anne van Olst). Blue Hors Farrell’s blood can be found in the colt (ds. Everdale) from the direct line of Dolly, the dam of Just Mickey (2014 Olympic Games) and the granddam of Grand Prix horses Meggle’s Boston and Dolman. Lingering at Olympic level some more, we find the striking filly by Farrell’s half-brother Fürsten-Look, bred out of living legend Valegro’s full sister.

Top foals by Vivaldi, Desperados and Romanov
Also combining new and proven Grand Prix blood is the filly (ds. Jazz) from Grand Prix stallion Donnerschlag’s line, in his turn sired by the promising Valverde. Having delivered last year’s top lot, this five-year old stallion made quite an impression at this year’s Dressage World Breeding Championship for Young Horses. The dam lines also contain quite some World Championship blood, with examples like the colt by the proven Romanov out of two-time WC mare Zolena. The blood of older stallions such as Romanov is somewhat more exclusive in this year’s collection. Examples are the filly by Vivaldi out of Grand Prix horse Sacre Coeur’s full sister and a colt by Desperados FRH out of the line behind top mare Rasijgje and therefore a full brother to one of last year’s top lots. Exclusiveness truly typifies this collection and is further reinforced by two colts by Dante’s Junior who passed away last year at the age of only four, and a colt by Grand Prix stallion H-Ekwador who is rarely used in breeding.
Wild card foals
This year too, wild cards have been given to striking foals. Franklin is the sire of a fantastic moving colt out of a sister to Vorst (Grand Prix, Anne van Olst). The other wild card foal is a filly by Ghandi and stems from an amazing performance line she shares with high-fliers such as Rambo (Daniëlle Houtvast), Zamora (Lynne Maas), Bon Jovi (Diederik van Silfhout) and several KWPN stallions. All these foals and more are auctioned this Thursday during the already memorable Borculo Elite Foal Auction anniversary edition.
