Dutch Under 25 rider Lisanne Zoutendijk has decided to retire her Grand Prix horse Watteau from competition sport.
Watteau is a 16-year old Dutch warmblood gelding by Jazz out of Nafra (by Houston x Democraat). He is bred by H. de Man.
The sensitive liver chestnut gelding, who has the typical Jazz spookiness combined with being an athletic mover, was initially trained and competed up to Intermediaire II by Letty Rosenboom.
In 2014 the Zoutendijk family acquired Watteau as Lisanne's second junior rider's horse and stable mate of Ringo Star. The pair made its junior debut at the 2014 CDI Roosenaal indoor and competed consistently at CDI's in 2015 at junior level and in 2016 at young rider's level.
In 2016 Lisanne had no less than three horses to choose from, her number one Ringo Star as well as Davinia and Watteau. In 2017 she competed Ringo Star and Rolling Stone (by Ravel) while Watteau was being prepared for Under 25 level.
In 2017 Watteau returned to the CDI ring at the CDI Exloo at U25 level in October 2017, where he won the U25 Kur Music. In 2018 the pair rode in just one international, Nieuw en St. Joosland, and returned to the arena almost a year later at the 2019 CDI Le Mans, after which Lier, Den Bosch and Nieuw en Joosland followed. The latter show in April 2019 was the horse's last international.
"As a horse he was very important to me and with whom I have achieved so much," said Lisanne. "We had multiple international victories of which two hattricks in Drachten . He took me from Z2 level to juniors, young riders, small tour, first time Inter II, Under 25 and senior Grand Prix."
Zoutendijk is trained by Jeroen Okkema and Coby van Baalen.
