Tina Irwin's Laurencio Sold to the U.S.A

Canadian Grand Prix rider Tina Irwin has sold her Pan Am team gold medal winning ride Laurencio to the U.S.A.

Laurencio is a 13-year old Oldenburg gelding by Laurentio out of Pasadena (by Donnerhall). He is bred by Hans Christian Grupe.

Tina and Laurencio made their international break through in 2016 at small tour level, and straight away won an incredible nine classes in a row during the 2016 season. At the end of the year the gelding was named  Dressage Canada Horse of the Year 2016.

In 2017 the duo competed in two CDI's in Wellington adding four victories to their tally. In 2018 Irwin and Laurencio moved to Grand Prix level, but again there were only two CDI starts. 

In 2019 Irwin dropped Laurencio back to small tour level, where his real talent and scoring potential with the specific goal of helping Canada earn their berth to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games in Peru. The strategic move paid off with Irwin and Laurencio placing top three in all but one of their 13 regular season classes. Back-to-back wins also helped the Canadian Dressage Team earn the silver medal in the CDIO 3* FEI Nations Cup in Wellington, FL. 

Laurencio’s most memorable efforts came at the Lima 2019 Pan American Games in Peru with Tina in the irons. The pair was Canada’s highest-scoring combination two days in a row in the team competition, propelling the Canadian Dressage Team to the top of the podium. The team gold medal was the first for the maple leaf in 28 years, and earned a spot for Canada in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. For the second time in his career, Laurencio was named Dressage Canada Horse of the Year.

Tina Irwin has now sold Laurencio to American amateur Christina Morin Graham as her future small tour horse and Grand Prix schoolmaster. 

In November 2019, Morin lost her Grand Prix schoolmaster DP Weltmieser from an aortic rupture. The gelding had previously competed at the 2018 World Equestrian Games under Brett Parbery on the Australian team.

Morin has her own farm in Malvern, Pennsylvania and will be competing Laurencio. Irwin will focus on her Grand Prix horse Fancy That as a 2020 show partner.
