For the second year in a row Just Wimphof became the most popular breeding stallion for the KWPN society. He led the ranking in the most coverings in 2018.
With 348 foals born in 2019 he had the most offspring of all dressage stallions registered last year.
German Stallions Rule KWPN Breeding
Four of the five top ranked stallions have German bloodlines.
The Dutch bred Just Wimphof with his German bloodlines (by De Niro x Riccione) was licensed in 2017 and already in his first year covered a big amount of mares, resulting in 234 foals born and registered with the KWPN in 2018. With 348 foals born in 2019 it shows that he was the most popular choice for breeders in 2017 and 2018 when they had their mares covered.
For the second year in a row, the Hanoverian Toto Jr (by Totilas x Desperados) was the second most used breeding stallion in 2018. He had 208 foals born in 2019. In 2018 he had 179 foals born.
The third most popular stallion in The Netherlands was another German bred stallion, Daily Diamond (by Daily Deal x Furst Heinrich). He produced 143 foals in 2019.
The top five is completed with the international Grand Prix stallion Desperado (by Vivaldi x Havidoff) with 135 foals born in 2019. The younger, German bred Fontaine TN (by Finest x Samarant) had 127 foals born in 2019.
Interesting Statistics
57% of the KWPN registered foals of 2019 were sired by stallions aged 8 and younger. Ranked sixth for 2019 was the young colt Blue Hors Kingston (by Toto Jr x Turbo Magic) sired 122 foals in 2019.
The top 5 ranked stallions produced 961 foals in total in 2019, which is 20% of all registered KWPN foals.
In 2019 the KWPN registered foals by 348 different stallions.
