Courtney King-Dye's 2008 Olympic partner Harmony's Mythilus was euthanized Friday morning October 9, 2009 following a severe colic attack. On Thursday afternoon the dark bay Dutch bred gelding started to colic and was soon transported to the Fairfield Equine clinic. He was operated on by U.S. team vet Dr. Rick Mitchell but he could not be saved as there was an abnormality in the horse's colon. He was humanely put down this morning.

"I feel blessed to have had Myth in my life,," said Courtney King-Dye. "We went through many struggles and heartbreaks as well as many pinnacles and joyous times. I can’t believe I won’t be greeted by his incredibly enthusiastic, curious, and happy face each time I pass his stall. He was a treasure. Such a generous, courageous, kind, warm, and giving horse I never expect to see again. My heart is broken."

Courtney King-Dye and the Malone's Harmony's Mythilus (by Ferro x Purioso) were members of the U.S. Olympic Dressage Team that competed at the 2008 Games in Hong Kong. Upon arrival in Hong Kong, Mythilus suffered from a heart condition and was treated in the equine clinic on the show grounds. He recuperated quickly and was able to compete in the Games. Unfortunately due to this treatment the horse tested positive to the banned substance Felbinac and was disqualified from the Games.

Back in the U.S.A. the gorgeous Mythilus was operated on to get his heart electrically converted. He recovered well from the operation but later sustained a leg injury and was unable to return to the competition ring to this point.

"I want to thank everyone who was with me and Myth for our journey together for the support they gave us," a saddened King explained. "To the people who made the partnership possible and gave their whole hearts to our cause, his owners John and Leslie Malone, and his original owner Rich Malloch. We are all suffering together. I believe that everyone who ever came into contact with Myth loved him. He left a mark on many people’s hearts and will be remembered always, not only for his competitive accolades but for being a beautiful and shining soul. He will be dearly missed.

Mythilus will be buried at his home in the fields of Bel Aire farm in Millbrook, NY.
