Latimer Died Unexpectedly

The renowned Trakehner premium gelding Latimer died unexpectedly at his new home at Stall Eiben in Munchberg, Germany on 3 December 2009. The black Trakehner was sold to the Bavarian junior rider Jasmin Büttner, who competed him during the 2009 show season.

The cause of death is not known and therefore a necropsy has been carried out. Latimer was a renowned Trakehner premium stallion but he got gelded in July 2008 due to an inguinal hernia. He was previously owned by Burkhard Walher of Klosterhof Medingen, where daughter Theresa competed him in the young riders' classes. The combination was on the German team for the 2008 European YR Championships, but had to withdraw due to a lameness issue.

Latimer was a highly decorated dressage horse. (by Saint Cloud x Caprimond x Sokrates.) is born in 1996 and got licensed in Neumunster in 1998. He placed third in the Stallion Performance Test in Adelheisdorf, Germany. In 2000, he won the Trakehner Championships and the prestigeous Bundeschampionat under Hans Jurgen Armbrust scoring the highest total score ever at the time receiving 10s for conformation and rideability. Under Theresa Wahler, Latimer won bronze at the 2007 German Young Riders Championships and finished fourth in the kur to music at the 2008 German Championships.

Latimer was very successful as a sire. His first son Hibiskus was reserve licensing champion in 2002. In 2003, his second son Illux was approved for the Trakehner Verband and sold to Canada. In 2006, Latimer has several approved sons in the Hanoverian and Trakehner breed societies including the full brothers Karolinger I and II, Finckenstein, and Immenhof. Latimer was proclaimed "elite stallion" by the German Trakehner Verband in 2005.

He became 13 years old.
